The ship’s history...
The Princess Juliana, now over 90 years old, was originally built and used as a training ship in the Netherlands.
On June 13, 1931, Her Royal Highness Princess Juliana of the Netherlands christened the new training ship on behalf of the “Education Fund.”
The ship entered service at the end of 1931, but due to the rapid increase in the number of students, the cabins had to be expanded and improved. The “Gideon” shipyard also carried out a refit, during which the ship was lengthened from its original 32.40 meters to 38.85 meters.
The Prinses Juliana served as a Dutch training ship until 1969, when more modern Dutch training ships took over. However, there was an interruption during World War II, when the ship was used to house officers.
